Eureka is unique among St. Louis County communities for its retention of a small-town atmosphere while still providing access to a major, metropolitan area. An active Parks & Recreation Department provides various recreational and cultural programming for the City that helps to foster community interest and a shared sense of place among residents.
The Parks and Recreation Department has grown rapidly over the past few years, having accomplished many things with many more projects ahead. The Department currently oversees and maintains over 164 acres of park and public land, which includes nine parks, featuring trails, playgrounds, tennis, basketball, sand volleyball and handball courts, baseball, football and soccer fields, a stocked lake, Disc golf course and a Community Center.
Construction was completed in October 2013 on The Eureka Recreation Center, The Timbers of Eureka. The nearly 30,000 square foot facility contains many great amenities including:

- Group Exercise Rooms
- Locker Rooms with Saunas
- Full-size Gymnasium
- Two Meeting Rooms that can be combined into one larger room
- Tot Care Room
- Outdoor Pool with diving board, lap swimming lanes, leisure pool with beachfront entry, waterfall, current channel and slide
- Concession Stand
- Party Room
